Chinese New Year

Chinese New year, also know as the spring Festival is celebrated on the 25th of January this year. 2020 is the year of the Rat . Because the purpose was to scare off Nian and prevent it from returning, the holiday decorations are typically a bright and loud red.

our tamariki made lanterns out of red coloured papers. Lot of concentration and attention to detail was shown when making lanterns. The older tamariki also helped the young ones to make lanterns showing tukana teina relationship.

The tamariki also did screen painting of the Rat resembling the animal of this years chinese festival. They cut their own rat and then with little guidance did screen painting.

This gave the tamariki opportunity to learn about Chinese cultural festival and at the same time show respect to other cultures on our community.

Happy Chinese New Year: (Xin Nian Hao)
