Samoan Language Week

Talofa Lava

“Lalaga le si’osi’omaga mo se lumana’i manuai. Weave an environment for a better future” is the theme for Samoan Language Week 2019. We at Mt Royal have been celebrating this through learning and practicing Samoan words, phrases, songs and dance. Today tamaiti were asked to dress in Samoan cultural dress or whatever they would like to be. We began the day by making pe’epe’e / coconut cream by cracking the coconut and grating it. The pegu/ desiccated coconut was then squeezed with the tauaga (coconut husk) to make the pe’epe’e. Thank you so much to our parent helpers who took the time out to make the pe’epe’e. The pe’epe’e was used to make koko alaisa or cocoa rice, a Samoan favourite that is enjoyed any time of day. Tamaiti also performed a siva or dance and sang songs for our parents. Manuia tele le vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa! 0
