Today we filled up the water trough and added in some buckets, spades, water wheels and yoghurt tubs. When Tamariki noticed the water trough they immediately came over and put both hands into the trough and shook them, seemingly to test out the water.  Tamariki used the yoghurt tubs and buckets to scoop up water and pour it back into the trough. Sometimes they would excitedly grab a bucket off their friends but gentle reminders to ask first or pointing out another bucket and they would happily continue exploring their water play. Because water play occurred in a limited space with other children, tamariki were able to practice sharing with each other and working together. While engaging in play, there were lots of opportunities for tamariki to communicate with each other.
